The Nurse Training Act of 1964 was in response to the underlying causes of a nurse shortage. Much of the Act focused on nursing education, including grants to build and renovate nursing schools, aid to help schools of nursing strengthen and improve their training programs, and a loan program for nursing students. #nursinghistory

This article traces the history of this critical nursing legislation, examines its outcomes, and analyzes the effect of the Act on nursing in the future.
